Dashboards are not refreshing
The problem is that dashboard tiles are not refreshing, whereas the report connected to the dashboard is updating properly according to the set schedule.
This problem became very frequent about a week ago, at the same time as the Shapes option was added. Since that only manual update helps (I simply repin the tiles to the dashboard). As I pin a fresh tile to the dashboard, the similar tile pinned earlier also gets updated.
But after manual repining of the tile, it is not getting updated anymore, unless I repin it again.
Please, advice how the dashboards could be updated regularly and automatically (without my participation).

Dear MICROSOFT! I see that this issue was reported in this thread back in June 2015. Now it's November 2017 and the issue still isn't solved! We are having the same problem all this year - reports are refreshing frequently, but dashboards - not. It's really hard to understand how company with such development resources is unable to solve such simple issue in 2.5 years! :smileymad:
We are seeing the same issue. No filters have changed, the reports refresh... the dashboards do not.
Very frustrating, especially for reports that update more than once per day.
Yes sir, SUPER frustrating.
So much so, in fact, I removed all dashboards and stay strictly in report mode for all of my visualizations. Its an absolutley poor work around but, we are making it work.
M$ support did attempt to solve the issue through multiple attempts but, were only successful with finding that filtered result sets do not transfer properly to the dashboards. Meaning, if you filter a date range on a report, when created and then the result set updates to a date further in the future, the pinned visualizations dont recognize the future date. They explained it with a matter of fact tone almost seeming like we were wrong for using date filters. Not a pleasant experience.
Now, we just use the reports as mentioned, at least until we can find a different platform that we like better.

Power BI is not a fully developed tool yet and has so many little annoyances like this its almost unusable as advertised!. None of our dashboards update! Never have and we are stuck rebuilding dashboards on a weekly basis. Whoever says this is a feature should immediatly be fired from Microsoft and Banned from being able to develop anywhere in the worrld as they have no clue.
It is such a simple and basic requirement. When we pin a visual to the dashboard, we NEVER EVER want it to be static. We want that visual to update just like the visuals on the report update. How come that is so friggin hard for the developers to understand?
There is NO use for a static visual. NONE Microsoft get that through your thick skulls. Again, at no time EVER is there a need for a static visual. Its purely idiotic in the reporting world to create a dashboard, pin report visuals, then, the Dashboard doesnt update the visual.

We have a report designed in PowerBI Deskptop that has a period filter in order the limit YTD comparisons for this year against last year. At the end of each period this filter is updated to reflect the new period and is published, overriding the existing reports. Everything has worked fine as the URL remains the same so links are not broken
I've now looked to build dashboards to reflect this updated data, but when the report is updated the dashboards are not. Why do dashboards on PowerBI have such a fundamental flaw? Is there a workaround?
Anonymous As you liked my post I assume your problem is similar to mine (A change in period filters not being reflected in dashbaords).
My solution was to have a hidden page with visualisations specifically made to be used in the dashboards. Instead of using a slicer to update the period for YTD calculations I used a calculated column (named current period) on my period definition date table using the logic is DATE FIELD <= TODAY() to indicate all the dates before or equal today (returning TRUE or FALSE). Then I filtered all my measures for the dashboard by using IS PERIOD <= Max(Period where 'current period' = TRUE and Financial year = 'this year')
I've never had a problem with the data in the tiles not refreshing, but I have had problems with the tiles reflecting changes I've made. For example, we have a tile in our dashboard that forecasts revenue to the end of the month. Each day I have to change the periodicity of the forecast, but that change isn't reflected in the tile. So every day I have to re-pin those tiles. It's really annoying and needs to be fixed.
sbstern If you are changing a structural element of the report visual, those changes don't get reflected in a dashboard tile. Tiles are seperate entities that actually just give you a snapshot of your data and in your case have a hook back to the report page itself, not the visual that it came from. (example: you can create a visual, pin it to a dashboard (creating a tile) and delete the visual from the report. The tile still updates even though the visual is gone). If you think of the many ways in which a dashboard tile can be created, (Q&A, Insights, etc) - this begins to make more sense.
I am having a similar issue - when I pin a chart from a powerpivot report (pivotchart) into a dashboard, the tile on the dashboard is blank. This was working up until last week. The tiles I had pinned up until last week still works. However if I take the same chart that is working and pin it to a new dashboard, it shows up as blank now.
Hi there did you get a result on this as we're finding the same thing and it's going to blow a hole in our delivery approach. Makes me wonder what the point of dashboards are?

I filed a ticket and have only received a canned response so far. This has been an ongoing problem for over a month.
We made a transition to a new ticketing system about a month and a half ago. This new system should have a faster response time, and if you are still seeing issues, please let me know.
I have the same issue, when I pin a tile on the dashboard it doesn't get refreshed. however when you pin a whole page it does.
Even i encountered the same problem .
I have imported data from sql using power bi desktop application.
If i republish data ,it shows me updated datasets and reports as well. But when i manually refresh report or dataset, though it don't give me any error ,they aren't updating.
I have installed power bi gateway-personal as described in documentation.
Is there any chance i have skipped something ?
What is permanent solution to this issue, we are still having this issue.
Some dataset refreshes the data in the Q&A tile dashboard reports. Some dont. it is very frustrating for IT and for the users and we need to manually refresh the dashboard tiles.
I see this as a much needed feature, and I'm looking forward to it being implemented.
It's important to understand what's going on in a dashboard tile. A dashboard tile is not a reference to a report visual, but a reference to a report visual ***AND*** to that visual's filter context at the time of pinning. This is by design and very useful. I will often create dashboards by creating a report, then applying filters to that report (e.g. to a CurrentYearFlag = true, or to a specific dimension category only), and then pin the same visual to the dashboard under multiple filter contexts.
The fact that a dashboard tile does not inherit new filters placed on the parent after the time of pinning is, to my mind, a very valuable and powerful feature (else I'd have to create the same report a half dozen times to support the filters in a single dashboard - talk about unwieldy).
Then there is an issue seen by some users where the data shown in a dashboard tile is not updated as data is refreshed, thus data that now exists in the underlying dataset (and should be visible in that tile's filter context) is not being reflected in the tile visual, whereas it is being displayed in the report visual (when that visual has the same filter context as the tile).
Only the second item described is a bug. The first is a feature that sometimes trips up first-time users.
This feature is restricting us to automate out dashboards. we always have to create new dashboard whenever there is new set of data available. consider the scenario where one has to publish daily reports and he/she has to make dashboard each and everytime which is very annoying. Atleast in excel we just have to refresh pivot/charts and view gets changed accordingly
I have encountered the same issue where tiles pinned from reports to dashboards do not maintain a live connection. The report refreshes correctly - but the changes do not flow to the tile pinned to dashboard. This makes no sense to me. Who wants a static dashboard?
This issue is listed as "Solved"- but it is in fact not. Is there a plan to fix this functionality in the future?
