DATA ACTIVATOR - why i'm getting the alert approximately one hour after the event Time ?

for exmaple the '___time' field of the event is  = 2024-12-26T12:12:00Z

and the IngestionTime is = 2024-12-26T13:15:37Z one hour after the condtion is met

what can i do?

Hi @OriBy ,

  • To set alerts to evaluate more frequently, open a Real-Time Dashboard.
  • Toggle from viewing to editing mode in the toolbar.
  • Choose a tile on the Real-Time Dashboard for Activator to monitor.
  • Select the More menu (...) at the top-right of the tile, and choose Set Alert. You can also use the Set Alert button in the Real-Time Dashboard menu bar.
  • In the Set Alert pane, configure your rule conditions by specifying the field to monitor and defining the threshold. Choose whether to receive notifications via email or Microsoft Teams. In Run query every give the specific time.

Hi @OriBy

The delay happens because of:

  1. Data Source or Ingestion Delay: Events are not sent or processed immediately.
  2. Alert Evaluation Frequency: Alerts may be evaluated on a schedule (e.g., every hour).
  3. Processing Latency: Query complexity or slow pipelines can add delays.

Fixes:

  • Reduce alert evaluation intervals (e.g., every minute).
  • Use real-time ingestion (e.g., streaming data instead of batch).
  • Optimize data pipeline and queries for faster processing.
  • Ensure time synchronization (e.g., using NTP).

Hi @OriBy

The delay in receiving alerts is due to ingestion, processing, or alert evaluation frequency.

Possible Causes:

  1. Ingestion Delays: Data takes time to reach your system.
  2. Processing Delays: Events are processed/indexed after ingestion.
  3. Alert Frequency: Alerts might be checked at intervals (e.g., every 5 mins).
  4. High System Load: Backlogs cause delays.

Solutions:

  1. Optimize Ingestion: Reduce delays in your pipeline.
  2. Lower Alert Interval: Set alerts to evaluate more frequently.
  3. Use Event Time: Configure alerts to trigger based on time (event time) instead of ingestion time.
  4. Check System Load: Ensure resources handle data volumes efficiently.

how can i do these technically?

  1. Lower Alert Interval: Set alerts to evaluate more frequently.
  2. Use Event Time: Configure alerts to trigger based on time (event time) instead of ingestion time.

Hi @OriBy ,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

A delay in processing the event or ingesting the data could occur due to the data pipeline or system architecture, resulting in a lag between when the event is triggered and when the alert is processed.
Ensure that the event time and ingestion time are aligned to the same time zone. If one uses UTC and the other a different time zone, it may create the appearance of a delay.
If the delay seems consistent (around one hour), it may indicate a systemic processing or configuration issue that can be adjusted. However, the delay might vary depending on the specific conditions at the time the event occurs.

The delay is consistent ,it always send the alert one hour after the condtion is met..

i also summarize the the table to minutes in x axis
