Custom text in shared report/dashboard

Hi,

Is there an option to add custom text in a shared report/dashboard alongside a visual? Something like a .ppt slide?

In our team, we are migrating all of our reporting to Power BI and everything seems to be great, except that when we share a report/dashboard, there is a need to have some sort of text to explain the visual. While this is not an issue when presenting the report/dashboard real time(because we can talk about the data), it becomes a need when users view it by themselves(or share further).

Regards,

Hi @Enigma ,

Yes, you can absolutely do this. In a report:

  1. You can add text boxes - so the text is always visible.
  2. You can add custom tooltips - so user would have to hover to see
  3. For a self-guided tour of your report, you could use bookmarks that user would click through and different visuals would be highlighted (or spotlighted) along with text if you wanted.

On a dashboard:

  1. Select ellipses (...) and choose "Add tile" > "Text box"

If you need more help, let me know and I can provide links to the documentation.  Or search at docs.microsoft.com/powerbi

Hi @Enigma ,

You could post the text in comment.

And you could use it to reply user's question.

Hi @v-eachen-msft

The issue with using comments, is that your original information could end up scrolling below the fold.

Custom tooltips and/or text boxes stay where they are put 🙂
