Cross tenant report

Hello Community,

I read here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-dataset-external-org-share-admi... that i can set up cross tenant report, but I am having a hard time understanding the extend of this functionality.

From the 'shared to account' in the target tenant I can see and build a report on top of the dataset.

But how do I publish an existing report to the target tenant which is still connected to a dataset in my original workspace?

Edit:
My report .pbix is connected to a dataset in tenant A, in Desktop I log into my account associated with tenant B and attempt to publish but I get the following error:

I have External Sharing turned on in dataset settings.

Hi @BIanon ,

It seems to be that you don't have edit permissions on for its external users.

Hope it helps!

Hi @BIanon

From your desktop you can't publish to an external tenant eventhough you are a guest user.

Hello,

I am trying to follow these docs in Tenant B to build with the semantic model from tenant A:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-dataset-external-org-share-view

Question 1: The docs tells me to go to the "data hub", does this refer to the "OneLake Data Hub" or the old "Data Hub" before Fabric?

Q2: In Tenant B, I can see my dataset on the home page under "From external orgs" but if I go to the OneLAke data hub I cant see it. If I log in to PBI desktop using the account native to Tenant B and attempt to connect to it, I can't find it either.

Q3: If I click on the semantic model on the home page I am sent to Tenant A, but logged into my Tenant B account, if I create a blank report off of the sem model I am only allowed to save it in "my workspace" in tenant A?

Q4: I see there are a lot of requirements for settings in Tenat B - is there a way to test if this is the reason it's not working which doesn't involve tracking down the admin and explaining each step to the person?

From the docs it seems like my use case should be possible

Am I misunderstanding the docs here? When I read the this, I understand it as I can have a report .pbix with an external data ref (ref to sem model in Tenant A)?

For context the workspace in Tenant A is in a trial Fabric capacity and Tenant B has a PPC.
