Credentials required for public website?

Hi!  I've been using a personal gateway for several months with no real issues.  All my data sources are set to refresh each morning and, so long as I log on to the gateway in time (I sleep the computer at night), all refresh as expected.

Recently, however, I added a page from wikipedia for time zones:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones

Each time Power BI goes to refresh the datasources, it complains that the credentials for this website are not correct, and I have to manually "authorize" the site (basically, just click "Settings" for the datasource, select Data source credentials, and click the "Edit Credentials" hyperlink).  There are no credentials because, of course, it's just a public website.

Is there any way around this?

Hi @Anonymous

Based on your error it is the privacy settings when you are joining data from Simba Athena and the Web.

What you would need to do is to set the Privacy settings to Organizational for this to work.

You can update it as per documentation: Re: Credentials required for public website?

Hi @Anonymous

I would suggest installing the Standard version of the on-premise gateway. And have this installed on a PC/Server that never goes off. That should allow it to not have to re-authenticate.

Here are more details on how to install: Install an on-premises data gateway | Microsoft Learn

Thanks for responding, Gilbert.  I have tried to set up the gateway as you noted a while ago, but it tells me it is incorrectly configured (no mention on what the issue is) and I don't have the expertise to trouble shoot it.

In the meantime, the personal gateway has worked fine until now.  I'm now getting this error message (which is a bit like greek, unfortunately):

Thanks so much, Gilbert: I'm able to refresh now - hopefully it will autorefresh in the morning.  One question, though - how would anyone know to use the "organizational" setting for access to a public website?  Not exactly intuitive...?

Hi @Anonymous

Yeah it is sorta tricky and I guess the only way to know is via experience.. I have seen the odd blog but everyone's situation is different.
