Hello,
I recently made a report in Power BI desktop and I had no issues connecting to the SQL server I'm using. When I published this report and go to enter the credentials for the SQL server, the loading circle spins infinitely and I cannot connect to the database. This is what it looks like:
I have let this run for hours but it never stops spinning/loading. I never get connected and I never get an error message.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
I am also experiencing this issue. I've confirmed no network issues, proper credentials, etc. The source in PBI Desktop will refresh without issue, I can publish successfully to the PBI Service but when I try to enter the credentials to the dataset I experience exactly what @jacklamlan has experienced.
Hi @jacklamlan ,
Could you please check your gateway is online? And check your credential had not been changed.
You can also change the basic method to windows method to connect the SQL database.
Hope this helps you.

Hi @jacklamlan ,
I am assuming that you have all the appropriate permissions in the service to make this connection. Assuming that you can, the first thing that I think of in this type of situation is whether or not your network is allowing the connection to go through. If it just spinning I am wondering if it is in a timout situation but for whatever reason not letting you know about it. I would suggest using a network trace like Fiddler and determining if it is being blocked. If it is not being blocked, then I think the next best bet would be to open a ticket with Microsoft.
