Credentials Failing when trying to connect to Azure Data Explorer (Kusto) connection

DanHowland_0-1675423075765.png

When using Power BI Desktop, I can connect to, view, analyse etc. data from our playfab data source, which is an Azure Data Explorer (Kusto) connection with DirectQuery. But using the exact same account credentials I receive the error in the screenshot above when trying to authenticate the data on app.powerBI.com

If I try to view a dashboard (that works fine in PowerBI Desktop) I get the following error on app.powerBI.com

One possible concern is that in the desktop version the data connection specifies insights.playfab.com as the cluster and then I can specify my specific database after. But the service version (As seen in the top screenshot) only specifies insights.playfab.com, which is not the full source path. I'm not sure if this is actually a concern, but it's the only thing I can think of right now. Also, it's greyed out so I can't change it anyway! Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you're having trouble authenticating your Power BI Desktop connection to your Azure Data Explorer (Kusto) in the Power BI Service.

One possible reason is that you are using the incorrect cluster name in the Power BI Service. In the Desktop version, you use "insights.playfab.com" as the cluster, but in the Service version, only "insights.playfab.com" is specified, which may not be the full source path.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following:

  1. Make sure you're using the correct cluster name in the Power BI Service, or
  2. Check if you have the correct permissions to access the Azure Data Explorer (Kusto) data source. If you're using a shared cluster, you may need to request access from the cluster administrator.

If neither of these steps resolves the issue, you may need to contact your Power BI administrator or Microsoft support for further assistance.
