Creating a dataset from a gateway

Hello, I am connected to a database through a gateway, and I want to create a dataset with the data from the gateway. Ps: I have the pro license. Regards.

    Hi ilyas_boumezrag 

    If you cannot connect the the database from Power BI desktop it is more difficult to create a Dataset when you only have access through a Gateway. Check first that you can't connect in Power BI Desktop, go to Get Data and select the database type you have, then enter your database connections details (These should be the same as in the Gateway).

    If however you can't connect to the database from Desktop, say the database is on a private server that only the Gateway has access to. You can still connect by going via a Dataflow.

    In Power BI service in a Workspace, create a Dataflow and select the Database type you're using. The Dataflow will need the database server and name and the Data Gateway authentication details. This will then connect to the Database and allow you to create Dataflows on the data extracted from it.

    Then in Power BI desktop, you can connect to these dataflows, and build your star-schema model with relationships etc. Then you can publish this Dataset to the Power BI service.
