Created a PBI Paginated Report using SQL Query, PBI asking for gateway?
First time using SQL query as the data source, I published the report to test if it works however I am getting the following error:
Could not connect to the data source.
There was an error contacting an underlying data source. Manage your credentials or gateway settings on the management page. Please verify that the data source is available, your credentials are correct and that your gateway settings are valid.
Since I didn't publish the query result as a PBI dataset, how do I set the gateway properties? There is no accompanying dataset to the paginated report in the workspace so I am unable to set the paginated report's gateway properties.
The documentation isn't clear on this but you can go to the workspace, you can manage the underlying dataset.

I assume the SQL DB is an on-premise SQL DB. And the paginated reports are hosted in the cloud. Hence the Power BI service needs to have a way to reach out to your on-premise SQL DB to read the data. And that intermediate piece is the Power BI Gateway. You'll have to install it on a on-premise server (so that it can reach your on-prem data sources).
