Create a Parameter in Direct Lake Schemantic Model
I have created a semantic model referencing a data warehouse in fabric. I have an org hierarchy containing department and team. I would like to be able to switch the legend between department and team. Normally I would do this by creating a parameter in desktop, but I do not have that option with the direct lake connection. It seems like I should be able to create the parameter table manually by editing the model from desktop (preview feature) but I am having a lot of trouble. Has anyone accomplished this, or is it just not possible?

I was not before a TE user, but this was very easy to follow step by step and it worked well for me. Now I just need to take the time to learn the "why" behind some of the steps 😅

Thank you for reaching out with your query. To switch the legend between department and team in your semantic model referencing a data warehouse in Microsoft Fabric, you typically create a parameter in Power BI Desktop. However, this isn't available with the Direct Lake connection.
Follow these steps to manually create the parameter table by editing the model from Power BI Desktop:
- You can manually create a parameter table in Power BI Desktop. This table will contain the values for the parameters you want to switch between, such as department and team. Ensure that the parameter table has relationships defined with the relevant tables in your semantic model. This will allow you to use the parameter values in your visualizations.
- You can use DAX to create measures that switch between the department and team based on the selected parameter value. For example, you can create a measure that checks the selected parameter value and returns the corresponding field. Update your visuals to use the new measures created with DAX. This will allow you to switch the legend between department and team based on the selected parameter value.
