Create Azure VM/server and install gateway to access different local data sources

Hi,

I have many different local (not cloud) data sources from different companies. I need to install a powerbi gateway to access this data from the same powerbi user, but I miss a server to install this gateway. Can I create a Azure virtual machine/server where I can install a gateway to use across companies and local data sources? If yes how?

Thank you!

Hi @NeedhelpBI

Yes you can configure on-premises gateway on an Azure Virtual machine, please have a look at below documents it will state all the requirements that need to be satisfied on that server where gateway needs to be setup.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-install

In addition to these requirements, you will have to get firewall enabled from this azure virtual machine to all other data sources on those specific ports and it should work.

I have setup on-premises gateway in similar manner to connect to local databases.

Allow me to get back to this one.
So the first step is to create an Azure Vitual Machine and then via that install the on premise gateway?

Hi @Greg_Deckler

Thanks for your reply. I looked through your link - but I am complete lost. When you say "setup site-to-site VPN for each location" do you mean for each company or datasource? All the companies with local data is based within the same geographical region if that has anything to do with it. Do you have other links to this / youtube walkthrough that could help me? Thanks in advance
