Copy of a Copy of a Content Pack not possible?

I have a content pack connected to an SSAS in house cube.  A user can connect to the content pack - all good.  The user can copy the content pack so they have a copy they can edit - also good.  But then they want to make changes to copy 1, then copy it again to a new version, but this doesn't work - there is no menu to copy a second time.

Is this by design?  Is it a good design?

Hi @MattAllington,

As a workaround for the above issue, after making a content pack personal copy, you can open the copy of the report and duplicate the report page following the instructions in this article https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-copy-and-paste-a-report-page/ , then you can make some changes in the duplicated report page and discard it if you break a few things.

Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

Hi @MattAllington,

Based on my testing, it is not possible to copy the content pack personal copy again, this behavior is by design in Power BI.

Could you please describe more details about the above requirement? We need to know that why you need to copy the content pack personal copy.

Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

I am not saying this is a deal breaker, I was just surprised. A typical use case would be as follows.

1.  I create my own copy of the content pack.

2.  I develop some customised reports that I want to use each day.

3.  I come up with a new idea to improve my custom reports, but am not sure if it will work.

4.  I copy my current customised reports to a new copy and make some changes.  But I break a few things and decide I don't want to pursue this approach.  I then delete the copy of the copy.

5.  I copy the current customised reports again and try a differnt approach.  This time it works.  I delete the original copy and keep the new improved version.
