Hello Everyone,
Since yesterday, I’ve encountered an error when using Copilot in my Power BI reports, specifically with the Smart Narrative feature.
I’m using:
Power BI Pro license
Working inside a Premium workspace
This feature previously worked perfectly, but now it shows the following error: “Something went wrong and we couldn't load the narrative. Try again later.” This happens with both Desktop and Published version.
I've tried to test in another Premium workspace, open the report in different browsers and republish but the issue still persists.
Could you please advise if there is a known issue or service-side disruption affecting Copilot in Power BI?
And when I tried to create a new narrative visual, the button "Copilot" is in grey:
Also, the Copilot pane is not working:

Hi @NP_NguyetAn , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
The most likely cause is a recent tenant-level setting change or expired preview consent. There are no known outages affecting Copilot in Power BI currently, so this is likely an issue with your tenant configuration. Ask your Fabric admin to check the Fabric Admin Portal under Tenant Settings. Make sure “Copilot and Azure OpenAI Service (preview)” is enabled for your organization or security group and that “Allow user consent for preview features” is also turned on. If you're the admin, apply those settings and allow about 15–30 minutes for them to take effect.
Next, re-accept preview consent. In Power BI Desktop, go to File -> Options and Settings -> Options -> Preview Features, toggle Copilot off and on and confirm any prompts. Then restart Power BI Desktop. For the Power BI Service, you may see a similar prompt when accessing Copilot, accept it.
Clear your browser cache or try an incognito window and sign out and back in, to both Power BI Desktop and the Service to refresh your session with the new settings. Also, check your workspace region under Settings -> Premium -> Region in the Power BI Service. Copilot isn’t supported in all regions; if yours is unsupported, try creating a workspace in a region like East US or West Europe and test again.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, please contact Microsoft Support at powerbi.microsoft.com/support. Include error details, screenshots, and provide all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken to help them understand the issue better and offer a resolution.
If this helped solve the issue, please consider marking it “Accept as Solution” and giving a ‘Kudos’ so others with similar queries may find it more easily. If not, please share the details, always happy to help.
Thank you.
Hi @NP_NguyetAn ,
Based on Microsoft's Product Status Dashboard (https://support.fabric.microsoft.com/en-US/support/), there are currently no outages.
I have also tested Copilot on a few of my capacities and they are currently working as intended. It is possible that your Fabric admin may have disabled Copilot. In the case that you are the admin, can you check the Fabric Admin settings shown in this documentation (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/copilot-enable-power-bi) to confirm Copilot is enabled?
If this helped, please mark it as the solution so others can benefit too. And if you found it useful, kudos are always appreciated.
Thanks,
Samson
Hi everyone,
I tried to check with my Admin and found the setting “Copilot and Azure OpenAI” is still enabled. However the issue still happens.
Hi @NP_NguyetAn , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
May I know if you have had a chance to check and try my suggestions? If you did and the issue persists, then the best next step is to report this issue to Microsoft Support. You can provide them with all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, which will help them understand the issue better and provide a resolution.

Hi @NP_NguyetAn
Since yesterday, you’ve been experiencing an issue with the Copilot functionality in your Power BI reports, specifically related to the Smart Narrative visual. Despite previously working without any problems, the feature now displays an error message stating, “Something went wrong and we couldn't load the narrative. Try again later.” This issue occurs both in Power BI Desktop and in the published report on the Power BI Service. You’ve already attempted several troubleshooting steps, such as testing the report in a different Premium workspace, using different browsers, and republishing the report, but the problem still persists. Additionally, when attempting to create a new Smart Narrative visual, the "Copilot" button appears grayed out, and the Copilot pane does not function as expected. Given that these symptoms are consistent across environments and are not resolved by typical workarounds, it suggests a potential service-side disruption or a temporary issue with the Copilot or Smart Narrative feature in Power BI. To confirm whether this is a broader issue, it would be advisable to check the Microsoft Power BI support page or the Microsoft 365 Service Health Dashboard for any official announcements regarding outages or ongoing maintenance affecting Copilot capabilities.
