Connection to Microsoft Fabric Data Warehouse changes from Service Principal to OAuth 2.0 on its own
We have a connection to one of our Microsoft Fabric data warehouse, and it is connected via a data gateway. We're using Service Principal for authentication. But, for some reason, it automatically changes to OAuth 2.0 at one point, and then our reports start failing. Anyone else is facing this issue? If yes, is there a solution to this so that the authentication of the connection does not automatically change from Service Principal to OAuth 2.0?
Issue: Fabric sometimes auto-switches your Data Warehouse connection from Service Principal to OAuth 2.0, breaking reports.
Why: Gateway or workspace settings may not persist Service Principal properly—especially after refreshes or updates.
Fixes:
- Recreate the gateway connection and lock it to Service Principal.
- Disable SSO and set a fixed identity in model settings.
- Keep your gateway updated.
- Raise a Microsoft support ticket to escalate.

Anonymous I don't see anything that quite fits here: Microsoft Fabric Known Issues but you can open a support ticket from that page.
