Connecting to one drive
Hi,
I’m trying to connect power bi with my college OneDrive shared an Excel file with me with “view only” permission, but I’m unable to open it. Is there any solution for this?

To get this working you have a few options:- Ask the file owner (your college) to change the sharing from “view only” to allow editing or move the file into a shared OneDrive/SharePoint location where you have edit permission.
- Alternatively, ask them to download the Excel file and send it to you or place it in a shared SharePoint/OneDrive for Business folder where you have edit rights and then connect to that location from Power BI (for example, using the SharePoint Folder or OneDrive for Business connector).
If the college can’t change permissions, there isn’t a workaround from your side alone, Power BI will continue to block access because it respects the OneDrive/SharePoint permission model.
In short: you need the owner to grant you higher permissions or provide the file in a location where you have edit access.

Have you tries using Web connector to connect to that Excel from Power BI?

Open the file in browser
-
Click “Details”
-
Copy the file path (not the sharing URL with ?web=1 etc.)
