Connecting to Oracle 11

I am trying to schedule refreash to our Oracle DB, but am currently struggiling.

I have instaled OCMT, but when I try to create a connection in service I am gettign following error:

An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Everyhting is 64 bit. I have tried: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/47880625/powerbi-object-reference-not-set-to-an-instance-of-an-o...

Any suggestions? What is strange is that the Oracl/network/admin file the OCMT creates is empty

HI @Bi_user91 ,

The message about Object Reference is usually an issue with the data source OR the relationships within the file.  So, for the gateway connection, is the Data Source working?  And, if so, is the Data Source connection EXACTLY the same as in your Desktop version - as in, not using local paths but using the "cloud" path to Oracle (unless it is in house - then it needs to be an internal URL or FQDN)?  And, is the Privacy Level type set the same thing in both?

If that is all ok, then, what about permissions in your file that is in the Service -is it using the right permissions?

What about network permissions?  Is something stopping you from getting to Oracle from your Power BI instance?

And, if that still is not working, be sure to update your Gateway software and make sure that you Power BI software is the latest and greatest as well.

Hi @Bi_user91
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.

@collinq has provided great insights on possible causes. Adding a few additional troubleshooting steps that might help you to resolve the issue.

  • Check that the same connection details are used in Power BI Service and avoid using local file paths.
  • Since you’re using an On-Premises Data Gateway, make sure the gateway is online and properly mapped to the Oracle connection. The data source credentials should match those used in Power BI Desktop, and the Privacy Level settings in both Desktop and Service should be the same.
  • As the OCMT-created Oracle/network/admin folder is empty, it is likely that the tnsnames.ora file is missing or not configured correctly. Try manually adding the Oracle connection details in tnsnames.ora.

If the issue persists, try updating the Power BI Gateway and Power BI Desktop to the latest versions. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues with Oracle.

If this information is helpful, please “Accept it as a solution” and give a "kudos" to assist other community members in resolving similar issues more efficiently.
Thank you.
