Hi,
I'm trying to connect to mssql database on the same machine as the installed data gateway. I can easily connect to some excel docs on the same machine with the same account and same gateway.
When I try one-word SQL server names I get a "Login failed" error (but with the same credentials, I can connect to Excel and the user has rights on DB).
When I connecting to DB from Power BI Desktop I can use (local) or "<name>" as server name and Power BI is connected, on the web portal, the one-word names don't work.
And when I use more words (e.g. <name>\mssqlserver) then I got errors as instance not found. It is strange cause with the same settings I can easily connect from the Desktop.
Can you help me please?
Thanks
Lukas
Note: Database is only local, it isn't open to internet. I need to transfer data throught gateway...

Hi,
thanks for response.
When I tried full name in desktop pwbi then it works BUT only on desktop. I can't add this datasource to gateway. The error message was Login failed.
But I found solution. When I have used short PC name, Windows authentification and domain\username login, it works. I have no idea why it didn't work for basic authentification. But I'm now very happy it works 😄

Hi @Anonymous
What happens when you use the PC's full name which you can find under system settings?
Or what happens if you try and use the Internal IP Address of the PC?
