Connect to a SQL Server with Power BI Services

Hello, I have problem connecting to a SQL Server that is On Prem using Power BI Services.

My Power BI Desktop works properly, I can connect to the SQL-Server there. I have a Standard Data Gateway that is online and works, updating an Excel file works with it. However I can not configure the SQL-Server, I use the same credentials as I do on Power BI desktop. The SQL-Server has enabled Remote Connection.

"Failed to update data source credentials: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)"

Hey @andhiii079845 ,
do you have created a connection to your DB within your gateway (in Service)?
Gateway has to know where to go.

Regards

That's where I have my problem. The Data Gateway is up and running and I was able to update an excel file using it. But I get an error when I try to connect to my DB within Service.
I was able to connect to it on the desktop using the same credentials

Yes, I have understood your issue.
I have to repeat my question. 🙂
Can you create a new gateway conncetion (you will need one) within Service?
Like this:

Then create a new connection to your DB:

Thank you, however, it does not work I get an error when I do that. See below

"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)"

It sounds to me like you (your IT department) have to enable internal communication between your SQL Server and your Gateway server.
Can you check this in your company?
