Connect to Power BI dataset from Excel

Hi,

I was testing connecting to Power BI dataset from Excel. I am on Microsoft 365 e5. I used Data > Get Data > From database > from SQL server analysis service (import). I was surprised to find that by this approach I can connect to a dataset that I don't have acess to (fyi - I'm not a Power BI admin). On the other hand, if I use database > from Analysis Service approach I can only connect to a database i can access to.  

Could anyone help explain?

My guess >> Via Power BI dataset you are connected to imported dataset not live, don't think you can refresh that, static sub-set of data
