Hello,
I have a dataset connected through SQL Server in the Power BI desktop. SQL Server running is running on Azure from the client side. I just have the server and database id. But when I publish it the service, I am not sure what data source settings to use. None of the credentials I try seems to work. How should I proceed?
Hi @rithu ,
Since you are using Cloud Azure, you don't need to have a gateway (unless you are using RDI/VM or something like that) . Therefore, just publish your file to the Workspace and then go into the Service and check the settings that they are connecting the SQL server. You can do this by selecting the elipses next to the data set and go to Settings and then select the "Edit Credentials".
That should set you up to get going.

Hello @collinq ,
Thanks for the solution, from edit credentials I tried the basic and OAuth. This is the message I get "Failed to update data source credentials: Microsoft SQL: Cannot open server 'X' requested by the login. Client with IP address 'X' is not allowed to access the server. To enable access, use the Windows Azure Management Portal or run sp_set_firewall_rule on the master database to create a firewall rule for this IP address or address range. It may take up to five minutes for this change to take effect.
How should I go forward? Thank you so much for you help.
Hey @rithu ,
That message indicates that your Azure administrator needs to allow the Power BI program and/or the Power BI Gateway Server to have access to the Azure data. If you share that message with the Azure administrator they will know what they have to do to allow Power BI to run.
