Connect PowerBI to Azure SQL Database through on prem gateway
Did you choose to allow your cloud connections to be served by the gateway?
That test is not always conclusive. Better verify with a real data transfer.
I ended up creating a new report with the same connection and the connection from the gateway shows up. There's something different about the pbix file, however, I cannot see anything noticeable when comparing the two files. Thanks for your help lbendlin.

I'm glad to hear the new report works with the gateway. It seems the original .pbix file might have retained outdated metadata or cached settings. This can happen sometimes, and starting fresh often resolves it.
