I have an issue when i try to connect to Google Big Query. We have a number of projects set up in Big Query, the proect I need to access is "Project 1". However Power BI requires that i have EDIT Read / Write access to "Project 2"
The error I receive is "Failed to save modifications to the server. Error returned: 'OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataSource.Error] ODBC: ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][BigQuery] (20) Query execution failed: Access Denied: "Project 2": The user Sxxx.Rxxxx@xxx.com does not have bigquery.jobs.create permission in "project 2"..'.
Our Big Query Admin does not want to give me access to Project 2 just so PowerBI Can work - How can I avoid this?
I know this is a rather old issue, but I recently faced the same problem. The solution was to create a service account that only had view access to the project and create job permissions. Using that account in Power BI limited the browsing allowed with the BigQuery connector and ensured the project used in the query was the only project accessed by the connector.
Hi @Anonymous,
Did you connect the data with Google Big Query connector? What about using ODBC connector?
You could have a reference of this blog to create a ODBC data source for BigQuery, then use ODBC connector in Power BI Desktop and write SQL statement in the connector to check if you can successfully import data from the shared dataset.
Best Regards,
Cherry
Hi, yes I used the Google Big Query connector. Do you have any advice how I configure the ODBC connector? Apologies I'm a newbie and used to Tableau connecting to Google Big Query using the native connector. Thanks
