Connect PBI dataflow to ADLS Gen 2 located different regions

Hi,

I am trying to create a PBI dataflow connecting to an ADLS Gen2 account. This ADLS Gen2 is not the dataflow storage, it's just a storage that I want to connect to.

As a test, I connect from PBI dataflow to an ADLS Gen2 (located in the same region with my PBI Service, e.g. North Europe), it works. However, when I try to connect to the one located in a different region (West Europe), it fails (as seen in the screenshot below).

Do you guys know how to fix it? Thanks in advance!
@v-easonf-msft I see that you answered the question in this post Dataflows Storage can't connect to ADLS Gen2 . Although it's not about the dataflow storage, but maybe you can give me an advice? Thanks!

Hi @v-chenwuz-msft due to security reasons, it's not allowed to use the "Account key" authentication method, and I don't have the permission to change that ADLS Gen2 account to that "Account key" method as well.

Is there a solution for "Organization account" method to fix that issue? Thanks!

Hi @darwindat ,

The Power BI workspace tenant region should be the same as the storage account region. (please refer this official article. Configuring dataflow storage to use Azure Data Lake Gen 2 - Power BI | Microsoft Docs)

You can move the workpace if you have Premium capacity.

Hi @v-chenwuz-msft, thanks for the reply.
My question was about a normal ADLS Gen2 storage account, not the storage account that stores data created by the Dataflow. Basically, we have procedures to copy data from SQL server to that ADLS Gen2. Now I create a PBI dataflow and I want to ingest data from that ADLS Gen2 account. But if the PBI dataflow's location (same as PBI Service) is not the same as the one of ADLS Gen2, I fail to connect (as seen in the screenshot above).
Do you have any tips for that? Thanks!

Hi @darwindat ,

Can you try some other authentication methods, such as key authentication?

Maybe this helps and you can refer to it.

Just an addition. I got the same issue if I connect from PBI Service to ADLS Gen2.

To be precise, I got no issue connecting and refreshing the data in ADLS Gen2 using PBI Desktop. But when I published it to PBI Service, try to change the credential to set up the refresh, it says the credential is invalid.
I bet it's caused by the same reason.
I look forward to any advice from you guys! Thanks!
