Configuring an On-Premises Data Gateway Using a Service Principal

Hi Team,
Could you please confirm, can we use a "Service principal" to configure an On-Premises data gateway?, Or is it restricted to an "Office 365 organization account" only?

Great question. As of now, configuring an On-Premises Data Gateway still requires an Office 365 organization account and does not support the use of a service principal for the initial gateway installation and registration. While service principals can be used for connecting to data sources and managing access in certain Power BI scenarios, they are not currently supported for registering or managing the gateway itself.

Gateway administration, including configuration and updates, must be handled by a user account within your Microsoft 365 tenant. For more details and any future updates, it’s a good idea to monitor the official Microsoft documentation on gateway setup and authentication options.
