Composite model not refreshing (doesn't see a gateway)

Hello!

Tried to find an answer to my problem, but obviously did not succeed at it.
Type of subcription - PPU.

The problem.
Created Testing workspace in PPU

Created and uploaded a dataset. All is fine with it. It refreshes through a PERSONAL gateway. Sources - txt files from local network.

Creataed a composite report. Uploaded it to the same TESTING workspace. And that's what I get. Of course I clicked RECREATE MULTIPLE times

For now the model is pretty simple

Everything calculates just fine in desktop

bpn1973_4-1642488903458.png

But when I publish the report to the TESTING PPU workspace - that's what I get

Details of the gateway Error

Details of the visual Error

I need to use PERSONAL GATEWAY MODE with this model.

I have multiple other reports created with IMPROTED data (plain old csv/txt/xlsx/ No DQ, SQL, Azure or other connections) and they refresh and run perfectly.

What may be the problem? Thank you

Hi @Anonymous

First , we should judge that in your composite model , what data sources are you mixing ?

Personal gateway just support Import connection mode , so if your original data sources are csv/txt/xlsx or import connection of SQL/SSAS , it can always run normally . But if you mix DQ connection mode in your dataset , you need use standard gateway . You need to add gateway for each of your data sources in your composite model . From the gateway error message you provided, it is not difficult to see that there is a data source that does not add the corresponding gateway. So please check the original data sources in your model and add the missing gateway .

The link below is a good introduction to the difference between the personal gateway and standard gateway .

I've setup a standard mode gateway. Seemed to work okay. In desktop.

Although when I try to refresh a PUBLISHED composite model I get the following error

Note that performing a refresh over a dataset with a calculated table or a calculated column which references a Direct Query data source is not supported within the Power BI service.

I understand that is a current limitation and I'm not the only one to stumble across it.
It seems to be a common issue

Use datasets across workspaces is enabled

I'm a member of the DEVS group.

The message on the Service suggests that someone has deleted the dataset you are connecting or somehow you can't reach it. Is the dataset in the same tenant you are publishing?

Yes, the dataset is published to the same tennant. The dataset was created solely by me. It was created using local sources and it refreshes on itself just fine after being published.

Unless you reaaaally need the Personal gateway for a limitation I would suggest using the strandard one.

Unfortunately I do. I employ very strict RLS rules and some of the data is very sensitive and can not be distributed or made available to the general staff.

I want to use composite models to cut on dev time and models sizes since I make reports for different departments with varying depth and scope.

Hi. This can be tricky. Just to be sure, have you tried connecting the power bi dataset without creating a composite and publish to Service? can you try it? (i mean without the txt files).

I want to make sure that the admin in your tenant has this option enabled

I hope this make sense,
