Composite model (mixed storage mode) report not working when shared with other users

Hi there,

My issue is straight forward yet has had me going around in circles the last two to three months, even my support request to Microsoft hasn't resulted in a resolution (as they are as dumbfounded as they can't replicate the issue on their side and continuing to search for a resolution), it might be a bug but I thought I would reach out to the folks who are smarter than me to see if they could help out.

Table A

An enter data table as below (it really could be anything I just used this an example) and create a table as a visualization

Name - Age

aaa - 111

bbb - 222

The reason I added the data source settings is to ensure I am not hiding any datasources 🙂 which may be causing the issue

I then publish to PowerBI service using [email protected] and share with a user t[email protected] who can see the report in his shared with me with the visuals showing

Table B

An enter data table as below (again it really could be anything again and I just used this an example) and create a table as a visualization

Name - Age

ccc - 333

ddd - 444

Again, I publish to PowerBI service using [email protected] and share with a user t[email protected] who can see the report in his shared with me with the visuals showing

Table C

This is where the fun starts, Table C is a composite model of the above two.

Adding Table A results in the following (note the storage mode at the bottom right)

Trying to add Table B as a PowerBI dataset results in the following pop up. I click "Add a local mode" to continue

This results in both datasets now in the TableC and storage mode is Direct Query. Now this report is published to the PowerBI service

Again, I publish to PowerBI service using [email protected] and share with a user t[email protected] but now he cannot see the visuals and an error comes up

Notes:

1) [email protected] is an admin of the workspace where TableA, B and C exist

2) Table A, B and C exist on the same workspace

3) [email protected] is not part of the workspace where TableA, B and C exist (although once the Table C was published I tried to make the user a member of the workspace but the error still persisted)

What makes it confusing is there is no database, no data source (as such) which might be an access issue, they are simple enter data tables and the only crentials used would be [email protected] which are used to publish this report/dataset.

Any feedback here would be greatly appreciated.
