Clarification on Power BI File Format Change for GCC Customers
- 9 months ago
Hi romae
Yes, that’s correct. The transition to PBIR for GCC environments is planned for General Availability (GA) in January 2026. Until then, GCC tenants may not have the preview option to enable or disable PBIR. Once GA is reached, PBIR will become the default report format for new reports in GCC, while PBIX will remain supported for compatibility.

Hi romae
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric community forum.
The transition from PBIX to PBIR as the default report format will apply to Government Community Cloud (GCC) environments as well, but only when the feature reaches General Availability (GA). Currently, during the preview phase, some settings such as the option to enable or disable PBIR may not be available in GCC tenants. Once GA is announced, PBIR will become the standard format for new reports in GCC, while PBIX will remain supported for compatibility.
