Changing dataset without changing report link

Hi all,

I am facing an issue on Power BI service.

Firstly, I published a report using its own dataset on my workspace "A". I could then share this report by sharing its dedicated link.

I now want to change the data source of this report, without changing any visuals nor the report link. I could publish the new dataset on a workspace "B". Then, I could redirect the data source of my report by connecting to a Power BI dataset, and choosing the one located on my workspace "B".

Fortunately, all the visuals are automatically updated. However, when I publish this new report (having the same name as the previous one) on my workspace "A" (same workspace as the previous one), PBI desktop does not suggest me to overwrite the old one, but create a new report. I am therefore having two reports with the same name on my workspace. The problem being that the report link has therefore been modified, which is not satisfying.

Would you have any idea on methods allowing to overwrite the old report instead of creating the new one, in order to keep the same link ?

Thanks,

Clément

Hi. I'm not sure if I got you. Let me tell you about the default behaviour in Power Bi Service to keep the same link. For example: you create a power bi desktop dataset/report and publish to a workspace A. If you then modify de file and publish again in the same workspace it will ask you to replace and maintain the same URL. It won't keep the same URL if you change the name of the file, change the name of the dataset in Service or publish to a different workspace.

I hope that helps,

Hi, I still have an issue. I dont want the App URL to change. When publishing the pbix report with some changes I can klick replace but than it says :"A dataset or report named xyz already exists and is set up with cloud refresh. You can save this file with a different name and publish again."
But by renaming and using the new one in my Power App I would change the url again.
Is there a clever solution for updating the report with the semantic model without having to change something in the app?

Okay so I think the problem is that I changed the name of the dataset.

I will try by keeping the same one.

Thanks
