Changing Passwords on Gateway Connections
For the last 3 times my password has changed per company policy, I have had to go in and create all new connections for my gateway online. When I try to update the password for any connection in question, it gives me a "Unable to update connection credentials. Invalid Connection credentials." It really is a huge pain to have to manually create new ones each time.
What can I do to fix this?

You can upadate the credentials of an exisiting on premises gateway connection and it should not throw any error. You dont need to create a new connection every time. What is the data source type?
I would suggest you to raise this case with Microsoft support team if you are not able to update the credentials of an existing connection.You can also automate the processing of updating the credentials using Power BI rest apis:
