Hello, is it possible to reference a Capacity ID in a report URL?
My Capacity ID is along the lines of: https://app.powerbi.com/home?ctid=xxxx1111-1x11-111x-11xx-xxx1xx1111xx
My Report URL is: https://app.powerbi.com/groups/111xx111-111x-1x11-111x-111xxx1x1111/reports/x1x1x111-x1xx-1x1x-111x-...
I'm looking for the URL to direct the recipient to Capacity > Workspace > Report since it will be via a report action in the 'From external orgs' section on the Home page.
Our delivery is set up so each user group has an app which indexes all reports available to them, those reports are images with URLs, currently clicking those URLs directs users back to their home Power BI rather than the external target Power BI since no capacity ID is present in the URL.
Thanks in advance,
James
Hello, it didn't help, but thanks for your response.
To explain my situation a little more clearly; I'm looking to have users from multiple AAD tenants access reports hosted in a Premium capacity in a different AAD tenant. Using in-place sharing and the external sharing features in the Power BI service, my users can see a list of reports and apps under the 'From external orgs' header on the Home page, but are accustomed to navigating Power BI through a catalogue built as a report then hosted in an app on its own, shown below:
Each of these reports is an image with a URL action, herein lies the problem where my users will no longer be able to use this for navigation throughout the reporting suite since the URL directs them back to their home AAD tenant rather than staying in the target tenant.
Each workspace in the target capacity is for a different external tenant, I was hoping to have one of these catalogues hosted in an app for each rather than users scroll through lists of reports with no reference image to identify them.
Do you have a solution to propose to this? Am I tackling delivery wrong here?
Thanks
Hi. That's not how power bi works. Capacity ID won't be at a url. The app doesn't work like that. It shows groups and the artifact (app, report, dashboard, etc). The group can be holding a dedicated capacity or not so it's implicit on the url when it specifies the group. PowerBi doesn't neet to specify the capacity and it won't. Maybe if you explain more about what are you trying to do we can help you get an alternative.
I hope that helps,
Happy to help!
