Hi,
We have installed enterprise data gateway on our server. We configured gateway on this server using first power BI subscription ab@corp1.com . We have second power BI subscription df@corp2.com
Can we use same gateway for both power BI subscriptions or do we need add another gateway??
Thanks..
Hey @smeg ,
I'm not sure what you mean by subscription.
A gateway is bound to a single Power BI tenant.
A gateway can have multiple gateway connections configured, each gateway connection is leveraging data from a different data source.
A Power BI dataset can leverage multiple data sources, if a dataset is utilizing multiple data souces, each data source must be configured using the same gateway.
A Power BI report is using a single dataset.
A Power BI email subscription (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/end-user-subscribe?tabs=creator), is subscribing reports, email subscriptions are not related to gateways.
Hopefully, this helps to answer your question.
Regards,
Tom
Hi Tom,
Sorry for any confusion. To clarify on this yes, they both are two different powerbi tenants. So do we need to use different gateway for second powerbi tenant?
Hey @smeg ,
yes, you need a 2nd gateway! Be aware that only one instance of the standard on-premises gateway can be installed on a machine. This means - you need one machine/gateway per tenant.

Tom
This means I cannot even edit/change instance from ab@corp1.com to df@corp2.com on the same server where gateway installed .I mean cannot migrate same gateway to another tenant.
Hey @smeg ,
during installation of the on-premises gateway, the gateway will be registered to a Power BI tenant. This registration ties the gateway to the Power BI tenant. This registration can not be changed. If you want to use the same machine with the different tenant you have to unistall/install the gateway.
Uninstalling/Installing the gateway and registering with a different tenant creates an orphaned gateway registration on tenant 1. If I would be Power BI Service Admin for tenant 1 I would consider you being "beginners."
I recommend doing some tests on your own, because I think your business use case is more complex than what is revealed in your initial question. For this reason I'm in doubt that I can provide the most helpful guidance.
Next to that read these two articles carefully
Hopefully, this is answering your questions.
Regards,
Tom
