Can’t switch from DirectQuery to Import mode in datamart

Greeting guys,

I have a problem with setting data model in datamart.

I`m trying to switch from "Direct Query"(default) to"Import" mode.

When I click "Import" on droplist, got nothing change.

Is there any prerequisite or setting I need to adjust?

    Hi Hugo_Zhuang ,

Thank you for the follow-up and for sharing the screenshots. Currently, Datamarts in Fabric are designed to use DirectQuery mode by default, and switching to Import mode from the dropdown doesn’t actually change the storage mode it’s more of a visual option with no effect at this time. If Import mode is essential for your scenario, please go through the workaround.

In Power BI Desktop. Connect to the Datamart using the SQL endpoint. Choose Import mode during the connection setup. Build your model and publish it as a separate dataset.

  • Hi Hugo_Zhuang From my understanding, Datamarts are primarily designed for DirectQuery mode, and switching to Import mode might not be supported
Please look at this thread it has similar answer and question : https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Service/Datamart-Toggling-Storage-Mode-From-DirectQuery-to-Import/m-p/2935040

If switching is essential, consider using Power BI Desktop to create an Import mode dataset and then publishing it as a separate dataset.
If this post helped please do give a kudos and accept this as a solution
    Thanks In Advance

      Hello Akash_Varuna .

      Thanks for reply🫡

Conforming to the thread, I found some interested thing that we can`t control storage mode on Power BI Desktop, but it looks like available on app.powerbi.com.

In my case, there`s nothing happen when I switch it to Import.

I`ll keeping mind on this issue.

      Best Regards,

      Hugo Zhuang
