Sorry, I (still) don't get it. Could you please point me out to setting the use of the "SQL Data extension"?
I already applied the connection type "Microsoft Azure SQL Database". Is the error caused because it's pointing to a Fabric Warehouse? Or should I use another connection type instead? I tried the "Microsoft SQL Server" as well, but that one doesn't allow to use the AD Authenthication.

As you provided the error message, this is due to: SQL Server is not supported by the SQL Azure data extension. You should use the SQL data extension instead.
Simply change the data source properties in the Power BI Report Builder, then save the report and upload it to your workspace.
