Can't plot decimal number data type column to Y axis
Issue with Creating a Bar Chart in Fabric
I have a simple table with the following data:
Brand Sales
| A | 244,000 |
| B | 150,000 |
| C | 550,000 |
I changed the data type of the Sales column to Decimal Number in the semantic model. However, when I try to create a bar chart, I can drag and drop Brand onto the X-axis, but I cannot drag and drop Sales onto the Y-axis.
Does anyone know why this might be happening and how I can resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
hi gori137 To fix the issue:

Set Summarization: Go to the Sales column in the Model view. Set Summarization to "Sum" (or another aggregation).

Check Chart Settings: Drag Sales to the Y-axis and ensure "Sum" or a valid aggregation is selected.
This ensures Sales is treated as a measure and can be plotted.

Although you set the data type to Decimal Number, there might be inconsistencies in the semantic model or data load process that prevent Power BI from recognizing it as a numerical field.
Check this -
Go to Model view in Power BI.
Check the Data Type and ensure it’s correctly set to Decimal Number.
If it’s correct, refresh the dataset in Power BI Desktop or Fabric and try again.

As rohit1991 mentioned, try to check the chart settings, drag the "Sales" field to the Y-axis of the chart. Choose "Sum" or another suitable aggregation method from the available options.
