Can't Refresh my data on PowerBI service

Hi everyone,

I have a MySQL database on cloud (Amazon RDS AuroraDB) connected on a power BI file using the MySQL connector . In Power BI desktop I was able to properly refresh the data. However, when I try to refresh the data at the Power BI Service I got an issue saying that my gateway is not properly set. Moreover, the option "Credentials and datasource" is disabled until I set the gateway properly. 

My question is: If my data is already hosted at cloud, why I would need a gateway? If I don't need the gateway, how can I put the correct credentials so I can refresh my data on Power BI service?

Hi there

The only cloud data sources that are supported without a gateway are some of the Azure services such as Azure SQL DB, Azure Analysis Services etc.

For MySQL you would need to set it up and configure it with credentials that have access to query the MySQL Database.

Also your Gateway Server would have to be able to access the MySQL Database.

No, you will need the gateway to get the refresh working.
