Can Pro users view reports in Pro workspaces based on Premium-Per-User workspace Semantic Model?

We have a master semantic model in a premium-per-user workspace.

We have several workspaces that have different reports reporting against that master semantic model.

These workspaces are also premium-per-user.

However I noticed that one of the workspaces was set up as a regular pro workspace, yet the report is still working.

Does this mean that users with a Pro license are able to view reports in a Pro workspace that report against a semantic model in a premium-per-user workspace?

If that's a legitimate scenario it could reduce our license costs - not everyone needs more than viewer access to the reports.

Hi All
Firstly  pallavi_r thank you for your solution!

And @andyclap to my understanding, your idea is feasible, but we have to be careful that uploading to the pro workspace only generates the REPORT, the semantic model is still in the PPU workspace.

Just posting here to clarify:

The linked document states:

  • If two people are members of a workspace that is accessing a shared semantic model, it's possible that only one of them can see the related semantic model in the workspace. Only people with at least Read access to the semantic model can see the shared semantic model.

The missing statement here is that read access is not enough, you also need the appropriate license for the semantic model's workspace.

I.e. if a Pro user tries to access a report in a Pro workspace that references a semantic model in a PPU workspace, they see a message to upgrade to gain access:

Yes, that's what I understood.

So it surprised me that I was able to upload a report to a non-premium workspace, and it work just fine despite using data from a premium semantic model, hence the question.

Hi @andyclap ,

No, only user with PPU license can access PPU workspace content. Pro user cannot access PPU workspace content. Please check the link here

Thanks,
