Dear All,
I have a very basic question. Traditionally in Power BI, when we do not go for premium capacity, we used the shared workspace with a cap of 1 gb size of dataset.
Now in fabric, suppose I have pro license and no Fabric trial or capacity purchased, then what is the limit on dataset size?
Do I have to enable Fabric and purchase a capacity assign to shared workspace before building a report in it?
1. Can Power BI report used as standalone tool without fabric capacity purchased?
2. What is the dataset size restriction
Thanks,
Pallavi

Hi @pallavi_r
You do not need Fabric, PRO is enough to use and share Power BI are reports.
If you have a Power BI Pro license and are not using Fabric capacity or a Fabric trial, the limitations remain as follows:
If your dataset exceeds 1 GB, you would need to use Power BI Premium Per User (PPU) or a Premium Capacity Workspace, which supports larger datasets (up to 100 GB per dataset, depending on capacity size).
Hello @pallavi_r
While Microsoft has integrated Power BI into the broader Microsoft Fabric platform, it remains possible to use Power BI independently of other Fabric features by turning off "Fabric items" in tenant settings. This ensures that only core Power BI functionalities are utilized.
