Hi Power BI Community,
I have a question regarding Power BI licenses. Is it possible to transfer Power BI licenses (Pro or Premium) from one organization to another? If not, what would be the best approach to ensure continuity of access and functionality when moving Power BI content to a new organization's tenant?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Power BI licenses whether they are user-assigned (free, pro, ppu) or organizational capacity (premium/fabric) are managed under a tenant, which means (AFAIK) you cant transfer to another organization. When moving from one tenant to the other, you basically have to create new licenses/capacities and rebuild the BI.

Power BI licenses cannot be transferred between organizations. To ensure continuity, export PBIX files from the old tenant, recreate workspaces, and re-publish content in the new tenant. Update data source connections and acquire new licenses (Pro, PPU, or Premium Capacity). Use migration tools if needed, and reassign permissions in the new environment.

Hi @Ashwin_ashe_pat,
Thank you for being a part of the Microsoft Fabric Community.
As @anmolmalviya05 and @Tutu_in_YYC Mentioned transferring Power BI licenses (Pro or Premium) directly from one organization to another is not feasible.
If you agree, please mark the helpful reply or share your solution. This will greatly benefit others in the community with the same question.
Regards,
Sahasra.

Hi @Ashwin_ashe_pat , Hope you are doing good!
It is not possible to transfer Power BI licenses (Pro or Premium) directly from one organization to another. Licenses are tied to the tenant of the organization where they were originally purchased.
Recommendation: Engage with Microsoft Support or your Microsoft licensing partner for guidance on refunds or credit transfers to minimize financial loss.

We have not yet kickstarted the project, but the client has already paid for the license, which we have procured for our organization. Given this situation, we would like your guidance on the best course of action:
Looking forward to your advice.
Yes you can cancel the subscription and the licenses. Depending on the type of licenses, the duration that you have them and usage, there might or might not be some loss, but probably minimal. Its best to reach out to a microsoft representative for a definitive answer, and they can also provide guidance on setting up the new environment
