Hello everyone,
I just started running into an issue where the maps (both bubble and filled), in a few of my reports are fine in Power BI Desktop, but buggy on Power BI Service. All of these reports were working fine in both Desktop and Service last week, but now there are problems in Service. Sometimes only a couple of locations will show up. Other times no locations will show up at all. All of the columns are properly categorized (countries are set to Country, cities are set to City, etc.) and everything works as it should in Power BI Desktop, but not in Service. I've tried recreating the maps, clearing the cache, resetting the data categories, but nothing is working.
Has anyone experienced this problem? If you were able to fix it, what did you do?
Thank you in advance!

Hi @RH10 , Did you check if the regional settings in Desktop and Service are matching ?

Hi RH10,
Thank you for your update.
We are pleased to hear that aligning the regional settings in Power BI Service and Desktop has resolved the issue. However, we acknowledge that some users may not use English (United States) as their preferred language or locale in Power BI Service, and modifying this setting for all users may not be feasible.
Kindly follow the workaround below to ensure that maps function consistently across different locales:
1. When a report is published, Power BI Service applies the locale settings of the user viewing the report. To maintain consistency, you can configure the default language for the dataset in Power BI Desktop.
Open the report in Power BI Desktop.Navigate to File > Options and Settings > Options.Under Current File, select Regional Settings.Set the language to English (United States) or any other preferred language/locale.Save the changes and republish the report to Power BI Service.
This ensures that the dataset retains the specified language/locale, irrespective of individual user settings.
2. After setting the default language, test the report in Power BI Service with users who have different locale settings. This will help verify whether the maps are displayed correctly across various scenarios.

Hello @v-pnaroju-msft,
Thank you for your response.
Akash_Varuna's response below which suggested matching the Regional settings in Power BI service and Power BI Desktop seemed to work. However, some of my users will not use English (United States) for their Locale/Language in Service and I am unable to tell them to change it. Do you know if this still work if I am the only one publishing the reports with broken maps to Power BI Service?
Thank you for your help.
Hi @RH10 , Did you check if the regional settings in Desktop and Service are matching ?
Hello @Akash_Varuna,
Thank you for your response. Regional settings were not matching; Power BI Desktop was set to English (United States) and Service was set to Default, so I changed Service to English (United States) and now the maps work properly. However, some of my users will not use English (United States) for their Locale/Language in Service and I am unable to tell them to change it, so I'm not sure if this is a permanent solution. Will this still work if I am the only one publishing the reports with broken maps to Power BI Service?
Thank you once again for your help.
