Bookmarks only toggle between selected visuals and leave other visuals as user state

Good day,

I am trying to replace the drill down and expand up buttons with my own buttons using bookmarks

I have a scorecard of 12 kpis, of which most have a QTR and MTH view, but i have no real estate as the header buttons pop up above

I battle with bookmarks; it always overwrites my last setting but can, and i would like the book mark to only affect the 2 visuals in question/selected. i tried playing with the selected option/data, etc just not working. The reason being there are multiple visuals for other KPI and i would not know the state of the selected visual, and I don't want to reset user interactions (dates, etc.). So i want the 2 books marks per KPI to only focus on the KPI and toggle but not reset the date it filtered npot the other KPI user states?

Please help with any suggestions or other methods/workarounds, etc.; i cant use paid custom visuals, etc

Rgerdas

Hi @icassiem ,

You're on the right track with bookmarks, but the challenge you're facing is likely due to how Power BI handles "Selected visuals" in bookmarks. Here are some steps and workarounds to ensure the bookmarks only toggle the KPI view without resetting filters or affecting other visuals:

Solution: Using Selected Visuals in Bookmarks

  1. Select the KPI Visuals Only

    • In Power BI Desktop, go to View → Bookmarks Pane and Selection Pane.
    • Select only the two visuals related to the KPI (QTR and MTH view).
    • Ensure no other visuals are selected.
  2. Create the First Bookmark (QTR View)

    • Set the visuals to show the QTR view.
    • In the Bookmarks Pane, add a new bookmark.
    • Click on the ellipsis (...) next to the bookmark and select:
      • "Selected visuals" (this ensures only these two visuals are affected)
      • Uncheck "Data" (this prevents filters from resetting)
  3. Create the Second Bookmark (MTH View)

    • Change the visuals to show the MTH view.
    • Add another bookmark with the same settings as before:
      • "Selected visuals"
      • Uncheck "Data"
  4. Create Toggle Buttons

    • Insert two buttons (one for QTR, one for MTH).
    • Assign each button to its respective bookmark using Action → Bookmark.

@powerbidev123  Thank you; it seems to be working

Can you please check the bookmark update is correct?

i quickly want to test with other bookmarks selected on another KPI if it affects it

Also, is there a way to simulate a button-selected action, or like a link highlighted in blue as it has been selected and black when it has not been selected?
