Blocked Dataset after Premium Upgrade

Hello,

Our organization have been using Premium Per User for some time, enjoying the services of XMLA and large data managing with SMSS/Tabular Editor etc. Recently we upgrated to premium but the refreshs (both via service and XMLA) are failing due to the following error: "This operation is not allowed, as the database 'xxx' is in a blocked state".

The reports linked to the same dataset are available, although all the visualizations are broken and show the same error in the details.

A sole topic on that matter in the forum could be found (https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/This-operation-is-not-allowed-as-the-database-is-in-a-block...), but the user solution was to start from zero, a not viable option for our case due to the dataset size. The other solution proposed did not work also.

Anyone could help with this, please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @GSImionato

You can backup the dataset from your PPU workspace and then restore it into your Premium workspace.

That should then work.

You have two options I can think of:

  • Create a new dataset. Doesn't matter what is in it - can be a single table with a single value. Then use ALM Toolkit to sync all data from your real dataset to the new dataset. Then use that one. You can then change any thin reports to connect to the new dataset.
  • Contact support. This is really the best solution so this gets fixed, but it will also take longer (days) than the above solution.

One caveat on the ALM toolkit solution - it will not migrate data, only the dataset structure. You will need to refresh the data.

Thanks @edhans. Unfortunately, refreshing the entire dataset it's out of order, since it would take days of processing (we use incremental refresh on three fact tables).

I'm creating a help ticket in the support also.

Thx again!
