BI Service Report not Displaying Updated Data

I have created a report in Desktop that connected to an Excel file in OnDrive, then I "Published" it to "My  Workspace".

When I "Refresh" it manually, it does not bring in the updated data and the "Refresh History" shows the following error:

"Data source error:  Scheduled refresh is disabled because at least one data source is missing credentials. To start the refresh again, go to this dataset's settings page and enter credentials for all data sources. Then reactivate scheduled refresh".

When I go to dataset settings, I do not see the opttion "OneDrive refresh" and clicking on "Manage connections and gateways" does not bring up any screen or the dialog box.

How do I fix it to refresh the report?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi @MikeGanem3,
Can you please try below points, this may help you.

1. Ensure that your Excel file is linked through the OneDrive URL in Power BI Desktop and not a local path—Power BI will only be able to authenticate it appropriately.

2. Verify your workspace permissions in Power BI Service. You must be an Admin of the workspace to modify data source credentials.

3. Attempt to re-publish the report to My Workspace in Power BI Service. If Edit Credentials remains greyed out, remove the dataset, reconnect with the OneDrive link, and re-publish.

4. Ensure you're working with the most current version of Power BI, verify the dataset settings in Power BI Service, and if still experiencing issues, clear your browser cache and cookies to eliminate any browser problems.

Hi @MikeGanem3 Please try updating your credentials try these please

  • Update Credentials:

    • Go to Power BI Service → "My Workspace" → Dataset settings.
    • Under Data source credentials, click Edit credentials.
    • Select OAuth2, sign in, and save.
  • Enable Scheduled Refresh:

    • In the dataset settings, turn on Scheduled Refresh and set the frequency.
  • Verify OneDrive Connection:

    • Ensure the Excel file is connected via its OneDrive URL in Power BI Desktop (not a local path).
    • Re-publish the report if necessary.

  • Under Data source credentials, click Edit credentials.   This option is greyed out in my case.
