Hi guys,
I have thusands of Power BI PRO license users and sicne the begginging of Power BI journey at our company we have now several Premium Capacities. My fear is that many of my PRO license users were created back in day to be able to view/share repoerts amongs them selves before we introduced Premium Capacities.
My goal is to find out how many of my PRO License users are actually using/viewing content in Premium Capacity and therefore I would like to take their PRO license back and stop double charge.
Does anyone know if there is a handy way to check what workspace(s) each user is assigned to? I could then map the workspaces to Premium Capacities and start re-gaining PRO Licenses. They are not that expensive, I get it but they do add up if you start multipling them on annual basis.
Please share any ideas 😉

Hi, you can use the Power Bi Rest API too for that. As admin you can get the users of any workspace using the following request: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi/admin/groups-get-group-users-as-admin
You might need some coding skills to request the API. If you have never do it and you know something about python you can read this post: https://blog.ladataweb.com.ar/post/740398550344728576/seteo-powerbi-rest-api-por-primera-vez
That's about users in workspaces. For viewing reports, you use what jaineshp suggested or you can use the admin workspace that already has a report that shows all the activity logs in the last 30 days.
I hope that helps
Happy to help!
Users who only view content in Premium workspaces don’t need Pro.
Check via:
Admin Portal → Workspaces (see capacity type + users).
Activity Log / REST API to see who actually uses non-Premium workspaces.
Reclaim Pro licenses from those consuming Premium-only content.
