Automating Power BI Dashboard Refresh After Talend Job Execution

Hello everyone,

My report refreshes automatically via the gateway every morning at 9 AM. However, there are times when the Talend job takes longer than expected and finishes after this time. In such cases, the data is not updated correctly because the dashboard refresh happens before the job's execution is complete.

Could you let me know if it’s possible to set up a mechanism to automatically trigger the Power BI dashboard refresh right after the Talend job execution is completed?

Thank you very much for your feedback and help!

Hi @MKN_PB

You can trigger a Power BI dataset refresh after the Talend job finishes using the Power BI REST API:

  1. Enable API Access in Power BI Admin settings.
  2. Register an Azure AD App to get an access token for Power BI.
  3. At the end of the Talend job, send an HTTP POST request to the API endpoint:

https://api.powerbi.com/v1.0/myorg/groups/{groupId}/datasets/{datasetId}/refreshes

Replace {groupId} and {datasetId} with your workspace and dataset IDs.

Alternatively, use Power Automate or Azure Automation to handle the refresh by triggering it through a webhook or script called by Talend.

This ensures your refresh happens only after the Talend job completes.
