I just created a new dashboard, and I am fairly new to PowerBI. I've yet been able to get the dashboard to update with refreshes nor manually. I created this dashboard on PowerBI desktop and then published it. The dataset was setup via the "Web" link option.
Method 1 (preferred):
I tried setting up the Power Automate flow called "Update PowerBI data when a SharePoint file is updated. However, I'm on the last step of the flow and no dataset appears? how do I go about making the SharePoint file a dataset? I tried hitting create>excel (preview)>filepath> fails to verify credentials every time.
Method 2:
I've also tried just setting a refresh schedule on the semantic model for my dashboard, but it seems I keep running into credential problems. I'm at a lost right, looking for any suggestions or guidance!
Thank you,
Hi @gabeg4991 ,
Are you able to refresh the report on power bi desktop?.In your screenshots I could see that after sharepoint.com remove this part -/x/t/ and update privacy level to organisational and see whether you were able to connect. If still it's not working try to create a dataflow and check whether you were able to import the data are not.
Thanks,
Sai Teja
No matter which way I try to authenticate it fails. I wonder if its because its connected via a web link?
Yes I am able to update/refresh manually from powerbi desktop. However, I can't get the published version to refresh to the most current data.
Hi @gabeg4991
For your first question: Power Automate Flow. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
Check Workspace Access: Ensure that the Power BI dataset you're trying to refresh is in a workspace to which you have Contributor or higher permissions. Power Automate can only interact with datasets in workspaces where you have sufficient permissions.
Dataset Location: Verify that the dataset you're trying to refresh is indeed hosted in the Power BI service and not just locally on Power BI Desktop. Only datasets published to the Power BI service can be refreshed through Power Automate.
Flow Connection: Ensure that the Power BI connection in your Power Automate flow is correctly set up and authenticated. You might need to re-authenticate or create a new connection if there's an issue with the current one.
For your second question:Scheduled Refresh. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
Web Source Authentication: Since your dataset was set up via the "Web" link option, ensure that the credentials used for accessing the SharePoint file are correctly configured in Power BI service. Go to your dataset settings in the Power BI service, find the data source, and update the credentials. Make sure to select the appropriate authentication method (e.g., OAuth2 for SharePoint Online).
Clear Cached Credentials: Sometimes, expired cached credentials can cause issues. Try clearing your browser cache and then sign in to Power BI again.
Best Regards,
Jayleny

1. I am a contributor so thats good.
2. I can see the semantic model on the powerbi service fabric online. Im guessing that suffices?
3. I think the issue is with the semantic model. It keeps failing refreshes and it wont let me reauthenticate my credentails for the data source credentials. What options do I have here?
I reset and cleared the cache. I tried creating a new connection but still receiving an error.
