I need to automate the export to PDFs from Paginated reports connected to a Power BI Symantec Model (Dataset). Service Principal is not supported for this scenario.
Alternative:
I see using a Master User under which we can run the process (from Azure function if details are important).
Problem:
All our users must use MFA, and it’s unclear how to bypass this.
Is there a secure way to use it with MFA disabled for Master user?
Are there any other ideas or alternatives?
PS: This scenario (run scheduled/trigered export) works in Power Automate under user with MFA, but I don’t quite understand how they did it.
Having a similar frustration - we've just spent a fortune moving a system to PowerPlatform to discover that the PowerAutomate flow to run a PowerBI paginated reports querying a Azure SQL database fall over every week because the user credentials in PowerBI have to be re-authenticated and paginated reports on SQL databases don't support service principal account. Also posting this reply so others can see it and don't spend the hours I've spent trying to get this working because a lot of the documentation seems to suggest it should work.
If you agree that this should be enabled, please vote for my idea here https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=5daac9b2-44a0-ef11-95f5-000d3a0fe9f3
Thank you.
Thank you. Dosnt look like roadmap all the features listed there were already shipped ....
Hi @EduardD ,
As far as I know, there is currently no way to bypass the MFA's restrictions on connectors. If the connector connection fails, you only need to manually refresh the connector. You can also enable remember multi-factor authentication to allow trusted devices to bypass multifactor authentications.
Best regards,

Hi @EduardD -Although service principals aren’t currently supported for paginated reports with a Power BI dataset, Microsoft occasionally updates these features. If the support for service principals extends to this scenario, you could leverage this option for a more streamlined automation setup in the future.
