Append problem: Azure CosmosDB query + Static XLSX-file = No schedule refresh
Hi
I have data from Azure DocumentDB (cosmosDB). I am combining it with old sales data, which is now static XLSX-format
After getting these two tables in Power BI Desktop, I continue by appending these two tables as a New table.
Ok, I have the old data (xlsx) + new data (documentDB). I create the report and everything is A-ok in Power BI Desktop.
However, when I publish it, create scheduled refresh (I have GW in personal mode). The refresh cannot be done in Power BI Service. This drives me crazy. I want to have it naturally automatically updated. I can again refresh the report in BI Desktop.
The reason is apparently the append-table. Could it be something with the data types appended?

Hi Anonymous,
Current OAuth2 authorization seems still not works properly at on-premise gateway.(e.g. when you combine on-premise data source and online source)We’ve started working on supporting oAuth based connections to go thru the gateways in Power BI which is the main blocker to why you can’t combine today. We’re starting with personal gateway, then will support the enterprise gateway (on-premsies data gateway) shortly after. Thank you for your continuous feedback and passion for this area. Stay tuned, we’re getting close!

When I delete the append query (which has no applied steps other than just the Combine two tables), the whole report works also in Power BI Service (= I can setup the automatic refresh).
I checked the matching columns and the data types: they are the same. I still do not get it to work.

HI Anonymous,
As error message told, your datasource contains not supported data source.
Current power bi not support excel workbook with xls format, please check below link to know more about this:Get data from Excel workbook files
What types of workbooks does Power BI support?
Power BI supports importing or connecting to workbooks created in Excel 2007 and later. Workbooks must be saved as .xlsx or .xlsm file type and be under 1 GB. Some features described in this article are only available in later versions of Excel.
BTW, your contents seems contains some privacy data, I'd like to suggest your hide/remove some sensitive data.
