App navigation suddenly not alphabetically ordered?

What's happened to the default navigation order for Power BI apps? It used to be that the order of the reports was alphabetical, unless the app creator changed the order. But sometime in the past few days, that has changed. It looks like reports added to the app are just sent to the bottom of the navigation order. Is this the new app navigation order? Or is there some new setting I'm not noticing here?

This is a problem for me. I've been using Power Automate Desktop to update about 60 apps after I make changes to reports. And now the users won't see their reports in the usual alphabetical place in the app. And actually, the navigation will be different each time a report is changed, since the most recently changed report will show up at the bottom.

  • Anyway, here's a solution to this:

    1. In the app's Navigation settings, turn off "New navigation builder" (it's a toggle at the top)
    2. Then update the app
    3. Turn back on the "New navigation builder"
    4. Then update the app again

This puts the reports back in alphabetical order because the old navigation builder is still ordering them alphabetically. I managed to work these steps into my power automate desktop flow.

Great workaround...but of course I do wonder WHY this now required and I'm sure virtually every Power BI user hs the same question.  Hope it is just an oversight.

    Hi, joe_young

As far as I’m concerned, the order of the reports in the navigation of the Power BI App seems not to be alphabetical by default. And the members in the workspace can change the order of the reports and add sections or link easily.

According to my test, the newly added reports will display in the button of the App navagition and the navigation will not change when the reports updated in my workspace. And I don’t think this has changed from the past, because I haven’t found news of Power BI update in this recently.

As a result, I guess that default navigation order may be changed by other members of your workspace. You can try to change them back manually.
