App audiences not inheriting permissions for upstream semantic models

So I have a report that's built of a semantic model which is pulling data from another semantic model.
In terms of lineage it looks as below.

Using the workspace app audiences, i've assigned permissions to view this report and others for end users.

Users are able to load and see all the other reports in the app apart from this one.

I've been playing around and I believe it's due to the end users not having permissions to view the upstream semantic model (Scorecard) as upon giving the users explicit permission for the scorecard model everything works fine.

Is there a way for the inherited permissions, assigned via the app audiences, to apply to all upstream semantic models?

I'd like to avoid the situation where i need to setup users in app audiences and then ensure they have access to all semantic models

Or is there a better way of doing this?

No.  These permissions only ever flow downstream, never upstream.

Is there anyway for the app audience to grant the needed permissions?

I would like to avoid having to add users in app audience and on upstream data set

use the same distribution lists in both places.

seems silly to have to manage permissions individually on data model and the app.

However, I have found a sort of work around
creating a report from the upstream model and adding it to the app with same audience grants the users the needed permissions to view downstream report fully.
This initally needs to be viewable in app, but can then be hidden
