Analyze in Excel unable to refresh after adding Calculation groups in dataset

We have recently added dynmaic measures using Calculation groups and Tabular Editor to a dataset. We have noticed that it has caused refresh fail error with Analyze in Excel files. When we removed the Calculation itemjs and groups from the dataset, the refresh issues have stopped. Has anyone faced this issue and is there a way to get around this? Thank you in advance Team!

  • Hi @saylivaidya

I was having the same error but luckily your post got me on the right track. Even though the calculation group was not used in the pivot table, it also caused the same error message. Whith the calculation group removed, the refreshing is now OK again.

This is a big disapointment since calculation groups can be so useful. Just as Analyse in Excel. But we need both !

ms: please give us a fix or workaround !

Exactly. We were getting ready to get rid of 100s of time intelligence measures, as we include calculation groups to create dynamic meausres. We might have to put that on hold for a while, until there is a solution. Analyze in Excel is a more important feature for company needs.

After experimenting, it appears that in my case the root cause of the pb was the use of dynamic format string expressions. By removing those expressions in the group items, the issue disappeared. I was using "SELECTEDMEASUREFORMATSTRING ()" but did not try to used fixed formats.
